Installing oil cooler in RE(AVL engine)

March 12th, 2010 by Rider | No Comments | Filed in Accessories, Bikes

A motorcycle needs to keep the temperature in control to output optimum performance. A overheated engine will cause damaged/seized pistons, increased engine wear, drop in engine performance and life. The Indian motorcycle market consists of mostly air cooled motorcycles. In air cooled engines the air in the atmosphere is used to cool the engine.Along with the air, air cooled engines also use the air fuel mixture and the engine oil to keep engine temperatures under check. This is why a richer air fuel mixture is always advisable since the air fuel mixture is a major component of cooling the engine head and piston crown.

Consider a scene in which you are stuck in slow moving traffic, now you wont have enough wind to carry away the heat in the engine. This causes the engine temperatures to shoot up.

This problem can be solved in 3 ways:

1. riding when there is less traffic

2. Using a synthetic engine oil.

3. Ride with a rich mixture

Now the fouth option and our point of discussion.

Oil cooling will keep the engine oil, and thus your engine cool. It uses an external heat sink/oil cooler that is fitted on the motorcycle. The input of the oil cooler will be hot oil from the oil pump and will output will be cooler oil to the head. This will cool the oil and you willhave a better performing engine that will last up to 40-50% longer than non oil cooled engines under similar operating conditions.

A oil cooler has been designed by ace bullet tuner, Chinmay Dangre of Pune, India. This oil cooler comes as a kit and can be bolted on to your existing set up. The kit includes the temperature resistant hoses and the brass connectors.

Fuel injection engine

February 17th, 2010 by Rider | 6 Comments | Filed in Accessories, General

Fuel injected engine thats what you hears when you go to buy a modern vehicle. But what exactly is fuel injection and how is it different from the carburetor? That is what we are going to discuss in this article.

The function of a carburetor is to provide air fuel mixture in the correct proportion to the engine. It uses the pressure difference generated in the engine to pull air and fuel in. It is fully mechanical and has no intelligence ie the intelligence is provided by the driver itself.

In the case of fuel injected engines the case is different , it can be said that the fuel supply has some intelligence .The fuel supply to the cylinders are different at different condition. It senses from different sensors placed in different parts of the vehicle and alter the fuel and air flow accordingly. Modern electronic fuel-injection systems meter fuel very accurately, and use closed loop fuel-injection quantity-control based on a variety of feedback signals from an oxygen sensor, a mass airflow (MAF) or manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor, a throttle position (TPS), and at least one sensor on the crankshaft and/or camshaft(s) to monitor the engine’s rotational position. . Oxygen sensors monitor the amount of oxygen in the exhaust, and the engine control unit (ECU) uses this information to adjust the air-to-fuel ratio in real-time.

They have better throttle response, better cold starting ,smoother ride, larger time interval between servicing and correct fuel distribution between the cylinders. In a multicylinder vehicle FI ensures that every cylinder get the same amount of fuel , in the carburetor engine the first cylinders will get more fuel and last will be under fueled this leads to lesser efficiency and wear and tear of the engine. The fuel injector is a electronically controlled valve which is supplied by the fuel pump of your vehicle. When the injector is energized, an electromagnet moves a plunger that opens the valve, allowing the pressurized fuel to fall out through a tiny nozzle. The nozzle is designed to atomize the fuel so that it can burn easily. The injectors are mounted in the intake manifold to spray fuel directly at the intake valves. The fuel rail supplies pressurized fuel to all of the injectors. The fuel injected engines are a little more costly than the carburetor engine but the performance and the efficiency is high. The only problem I see with the fuel injected engines is that ,if the battery is down we cannot push the vehicle and start the vehicle because it will damage the sensors.

Intelligent Computerized Anti-theft System

December 30th, 2009 by Tinku | No Comments | Filed in Accessories

All the vehicles are produced with more powerful anti theft systems to safe guard our luxury vehicles from thieves. The modern thieves have all the sophistication to break any lock in no time. Therefore, we need to have fixed a powerful Intelligent Computerized Anti-theft System to keep out property safe.

The Intelligent Computerized Anti-theft System communicates with the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) of the car and disables the ignition. And nobody can start your car without the original keys. This additional feature of Computerized Anti-theft System in vehicles can cause a slight increase in the cost of the vehicle from Rs. 1000/- to Rs. 4000/-. And of course it will depend on the model you choose. When you are ready to spend lakhs of rupees for you luxury car, why don’t you pay a little more too to safe guard you car? A little expense on the anti theft computerized system in advance will give you more profit by saving your car from thieves.

The level of security is improved as the security device is built right into the ECU of cars. No stranger can break the codes of it and even if you loose the original factory made key of your car, you will have to get back to the company for another piece of it to get to your car. Just duplicating a key in the same shape and size will not help you in this regard.

The car key is sensitive. When you insert your key into the key hole, a message is passed to the ECU and the system detects the original key. And only if it is the original one you can get the car started. So, no duplicate key will operate your car. Even you cannot start your car with a duplicate key if you loose the original piece. The unique electronic identification of the encrypted code is essential for the operation of the electronic lock of the car. When the electronic control unit of the car receives these signals, the computer matches the secret codes and verifies the electronic identification and if the code matches with each other, the engine will start and if there is no match between them the car will not start. The Anti-theft technology has also gained the consideration of insurance companies as they are now open to giving incentives to the technology. So, you can be sure about the security and reliability of your car and anti-theft system.
