Electric scooters and bikes is the new buzz in the automobile world. Electric bikes and scooters may free us from the rising fuel price and atmospheric pollution.

The main components of a elctric scooter are:

ELECTRIC HUB MOTOR : to drive the rear wheel directly and there are two types of Electric Hub Motor.
ELECTRONIC MOTOR CONTROLLER : provides electric power to the motor based on inputs from the accelerator.
ELECTRONIC ACCELERATOR : sends electronic signals to the Electronic Motor Controller .
BATTERY PACK : There are different kinds of batteries like Lead Acid, Nickel Metal Hydrate (Ni-MH), Lithium, etc.
BATTERY CHARGER : Some battery chargers are in-built and some are separate.

The main advantages of using a electric two wheeler are :

1. Electric bikes or scooters use electricity therefore no emission of harmful gases which leads to less polluted air in the cities.
2. Registration and Licence is not needed for E Bikes and Scooters.
3. Electric two wheelers run on re-chargeable battery.
4. Electric vehicles are very low in running and maintenance cost.

Electric two wheelers are gaining much popularity in the urban areas. The only problem with electric scooters is the lack of range. More details about E two wheelers will be published in later posts.

Suzuki Cervo to be released in India

Cervo is maruti suzuki’s answer to tata’s nano. Powered by suzuki`s 660cc engine it will have a price tag of about 1.5 lakh. Cervo could be a perfect replacement for maruti 800 in the urban areas. It will be launched in India by the middle of 2010.

Though not officially announced the features of cervo are : 658 CC MPFI Petrol Engine, 3 Cylinder / 4 Valves per cylinder engine, Max Power 54 BHP @ 6500 rpm,front semi-bucket seats, Max Torque 64 Nm @ 3500 rpm, Length : 3395 mm ,K6A DOHC engine with VVT, bluetooth capability, Width : 1475 mm, Height : 1535 mm, Wheelbase : 2360 mm, Weight : 790 Kg, 13 Inches Wheels, 30 Litre Fuel Tank, 5 Speed Manual Transmission etc. The high end model may sport ABS, air bags and body coloured bumbers. The interiors of the car have loads of space, be it the head room, leg room or the boot space.Because of its compact design ans power steering driving in the cities would be easy.

From the looks aspect it looks like the younger brother of honda jazz. We will have to wait and see how this car turns out.

Budget 2010 expectations

Expectations in Automobile Industry

The Indian auto industry which was resilience to the global slowdown in now expecting some goodies from finance minister that will set the  boom.The industry is praying that the stimulus packages roled during the slowdown year shouldn’t be taken back, as it is, there has already been an increase in Cenvat rate for excise duty by two per cent. Strong lobby is working to reduce the Custom Duty rates.

Auto industry is expecting a decrese in the two wheeler, car and three wheelr loan. The industry also fears that if the stimulus package given last year is withdrawn the price of cars may increase. A hike of 1-2% of service tax and 2% in cenvat is also expected. It is also expecting a reduction in the reduction of import duty of hybrid cars which will incresase in the compettion
The budget will be favorable to Ashok Leyland and Tata Motors because of the increased allocation under the JNNURM for buses.

Ford figo to be released in india

After chevy another giant enters the small car segment and this time it is Ford. Ford introduces its new ford figo in 2010 and it will be in the same class with Swift,indica,indica vista etc.

The engine :

Ford figo will be available in two engine(five speed manual) options DuraTec Petrol and DuraTorq Diesel.

Petrol(MPFI):The petrol engine is a scaled down version of sigma petrol engines that power the fiesta . The petrol engine will have four valves per cylinder and double over head cam and is capable of delivering a maximum power of 70bhp@6250 rpm and maximum torque of 104nm@4000rpm.

Diesel: 1.4 lit duratorq diesel is the same as that of Ikon and Fiesta. Maximum Power is 68 Bhp @ 4000rpm and maximum Torque is 160 Nm @ 2000 rpm.

Safety features:Two airbags for front passenger and driver, ABS with EBD, seatbelt warning indicators, door-ajar warning, belt tensioners,AC with heater, Programmable remote locking system 14 Inch Wheel and belt force limiters.

General features of figo are: 5 Speed Manual Transmission,Huge luggage space ,Length : 3795mm, Width 1680mm and Height 1427mm, Front Suspension McPherson Strut, Rear Suspension – Multiple Link Twist Beam, 45 Liter Fuel Tank, Dashboard mounted boot opening button, Programmable remote locking system, Flip-fold down rear seat, Modern instrument cluster, Height adjustable driver seat, Integrated MP3 player with Bluetooth connectivity, AC without climate control, power windows, mp3 cd player and fog lamp.

Volkswagen Polo release in march 2010

After its successful models like passat and jetta volkswagen releases its new model polo.

Polo will be available in 6 varients, three petrol (MPFI) and three diesel.The petrol version will be powered by a 1.2L, 1198cc, 3 Cylinder, petrol engine with five speed manual transmission gearbox. This engine can produce 75PS of maximum power at 5400rpm and 110Nm of torque at 3750rpm. Another sports petrol model is also available .It will be powered by a high capacity 1.6l,1598cc 4 cylinder engine with five speed manual gear box. It is capable of producing a maximum power of 105ps at 5020 rpm and a maximum torque of 153nm at 3750 rpm. It can cross the 100km/hr mark in just 11.1 seconds and have a top speed of 182kmph. While the diesel varient will be powered by a 1.2l, 1199cc, 3 cylinder engine. The TDI version of diesel varient is capable of producing a maximum power of 75ps@4200rpm and a maximum torque of 180nm@2000rpm. The TDI DPF engine is capable of producing 80ps of maximum power at 5000rpm with maximum torque of 195nm at 4000rpm.

Safety features:

Polo is loaded with safety features like dual air bags,ABS with EBD(electronic brake-force distribution), ESP (Electronic Stabilization Program) with Hill Hold Control to enhance stability and offer more comfortable riding, Belt tensioners and belt force limiters, Seatbelt warning indicator, Head restraints that counteract the risk of whiplash injury the in front seat, 3 rear head restraints and ISOFIX child seat preparation.

Mileage:

The 1.2L, 1172cc petrol engine offers a mileage of 13.2kmpl in city and 18.3kmpl on highway.1.4L, 1399cc petrol engine offer a mileage 12.1kmpl in city and 17.2kmpl on highway. The 1.4L, 1368cc TDI engine offers a mileage of 15.5kmpl in city and a mileage of 22.6kmpl on highways. On the other hand other variants of Volkswagen Polo which will be packed with 1.4L, TDI DPF diesel engine offers mileage 17.4kmpl mileage in city and 23.6kmpl on highway.
